In Milwaukee, it’s a phenomenon. According to this article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal, eccentric Brewers outfielder Nyger Morgan and his alter ego, Tony Plush, are bringing additional life to shirt sales in the Brewers team store. In fact, Morgan’s shirts are outselling the two best players on his team. Incidentally, Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder are two of the best players in the Major Leagues as well.
While Morgan has been a journeyman his entire career, sales of his shirt in Milwaukee are triple that of Braun’s and Fielder’s. WOW. I guess his presence and antics does have an impact somewhere and that somewhere is with fans.
Whether his attitude and antics are are good or bad for the game is a question worth asking. Some players don’t like him and he seems like a guy who gets hit by a lot of pitches.
For me, lasting images of Morgan are plowing into catchers, charging mounds, and the fact that he played hockey when he was growing up.
I think the point here is that I have a lasting picture in my mind. Of Nyger Morgan. Considering all he has “accomplished” so far in the major leagues, I guess that’s saying something for the guy.
