Five Things to Replace the Football Fix

By
Updated: January 31, 2012

The Pro Bowl this weekend reminded football freakazoids that the end is near. In five days, the Super Bowl will take place in Indianapolis. Later on Sunday evening, the Super Bowl will end.

I don’t mean to bum anyone out prematurely, but on Monday morning, NFL fans will awake with a hungover start.

With the NFL over, I thought it appropriate to give you five sports-related things to help NFL fans with the DT’s.

5 – The NBA is on almost every night.

After a lockout that I’ve heard most aptly described by a fan as “totally lame and meaningless,” fans are treated with NBA on television most nights during the week. One criticism of the NBA over the past number of years has been its predictability. Teams like the Lakers are struggling, the Clippers are a top-5 team, the 76ers are at the top of the standings, and the Timberwolves don’t constitute a night off any longer.

Because teams are playing four or five games per week, the best teams are not always the ones that win. More to come on the NBA soon.

4 – Who will be the Dodgers’ next owner?

While it doesn’t look like it will be Mark Cuban, the drama and intrigue that will surely surround the next few months for Dodgers fans is something that should take the edge off for football fans in Los Angeles.

Speaking of baseball…

3 – Spring Training is coming up sooner than you think.

Pitchers and catchers report 2 weeks after the Super Bowl. While those two weeks may be rough, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Spring training really is an annual renewal for baseball fans and for baseball fans who have been in a football-induced five-month NFL bender, spring training will be like that moment you’re over a hangover enough to let some natural light in. It might still be painful, but seeing Jonathan Broxton practice bunting or watching Rod Barajas practice running the bases will be renewing.

Also, there are players like Albert Pujols in Anaheim and Prince Fielder in Detroit who are big names in new places. An aside, the American League continues to DOMINATE talent. The Phillies belong in the American League, I think… .

2 – March Madness is only 6 weeks away.

We know what that is going to look like. Love the Bryce Drew post-buzzer-beater dive.
