Fansmanship Podcast Episode 217 – Chris Sylvester and Brint Wahlberg
It’s another podcast episode! Cal Poly basketball teams are at the Big...
I had a chance to talk this week with Cal Poly men’s soccer coach Paul Holocher. With a tough schedule last year, Holocher’s Mustangs finished the season at 6-9-3 and gave up less than one goal per game. Many of Holocher’s key defenders from a year ago have graduated and the 2012 team looks like it will be generally young and inexperienced.
Among other things, Coach Holocher talked about player development on the Central Coast and across the United States, the importance of well-qualified youth soccer coaches, and the inherent difficulties of developing world-class soccer players throughout the country. Having played in the college and professional ranks including overseas and in the MLS, Holocher has an interesting perspective on soccer in this country.
I caught up with Coach Holocher on the phone from an Olympic Development Program tournament in Oregon.
