Cal Poly vs. Menlo College Photos and stuff….

This game was pretty one-sided. Cal Poly took an early 8-0 lead and never looked back, leading at the half 42-14. Cal Poly set a record for fewest points allowed in a half. The previous record was 15.

In the second half, Cal Poly continued the onslaught. Ten Mustangs scored in the 89-43 victory. The 46-point win ties for the second-largest victory margin in school history.

I posted comments from head coach Joe Callero below. He talked about “emotional stamina” of his players and about his young guys learning about it. Callero outlined the program’s philosophy about what types of players he brings into Cal Poly.

“We talk about the recruiting process,” said Callero. “We don’t want high drama kids, we don’t want high drama families, we don’t want high-drama coaches. We’re saying, ‘Look, to be good at Cal Poly, you’re going to have to put your shoes on every day and get dirty, get muddy, hit the film room. And if that old-fashioned dirty, grindy, program-building approach isn’t good for you, if it’s about sizzle and what kind of new shoes do I have and how many games are on TV or how many flat-screen TVs are in the locker room you’re not going to be very happy or successful with us.
