Jaylen Shead is transferring.
According to the Pac 12 Network broadcast and later confirmed, Cal Poly sophomore guard Jaylen Shead has transferred out of the program, effective immediately.
Shead was arguably Cal Poly’s best player.
With his ability to guard opposing teams’ best defenders and explosive offensive quickness, Shead’s rebounding and athleticism was a key to an effective four-guard lineup for Joe Callero’s team early in the season.
While he could often get his own shot, Shead led the team (and Big West Conference) in assists through the Mustangs’ first ten games.
There is no word about where he’ll go or reasons behind the transfer.
The 2016-17 Cal Poly team is now 11 games into the season and has now lost its two most physical and explosive players in Shead and forward Josh Martin, who was lost for the season with a foot injury.
On Saturday night, the Mustangs lost to Cal in Berkeley 81-55.
