Either way, mark me down that trumbo will not be the angels third baseman.

Edgar “Fing” Martinez? As dope as E-Martin’ was, dude would not compare to the legendary consistency of AP. And while you continue to make-believe Trumbo couldn’t play third, Ill take the more pragmatic approach and say: The guy played 3rd in college quite a bit and because of this could plausibly play 3rd in the pros. And how are pitcher’s protected? Seriously? It’s called being a true 3 or 4 guy but formerly forced to be a 1, where you struggled going up against the likes of Verlander and Weaver. All I was saying is that you can’t discount the ability to have a solid lefty slinger like Wilson in your 3 or 4 spot in the rotation. Wilson lengthens what was already a dominate staff. And from August on, Santana was 7-2 with a 2.77 ERA. You wouldn’t build a staff around that? How weird.

In a world of free agency, one has to act and take risk more than ever. The Angels cornered Albert Pujols at an enormous cost in order to win and win NOW. This ever present NOW is the tell-all be-all when it comes to team success. And while I agree with you, in regards to Pujols decline in 5 or 7 years, I am willing to assert the Angels will tack up two or three world series rings in the next ten years. Is it then worth it? Absolutely. For an organization with ONE to their name, tacking up two or three more banners not only solidifies them with a contender’s fan base, but stokes the flames for future big-name free agents, as the years progress. The beauty of the AL is the DH position. Pujols, in four or five years, will be become the best hitting DH ever. His calm consistency at the plate blended with an uncanny work ethic and plate discipline, is an equation for a career of relevant longevity. Then, we have C.J. Wilson, a lefty slinger who’s 31-15 with a 3.08 ERA the last two-years. Not only had the man done this in a hitters park, but with little protection at or around him. In Anaheim, the So Cal native will have a chance to be surrounded by Cy Young candidates, all three of which would/could be “the man” wherever they go. I suspect pitching in a pitchers park and with these three around him, not to mention his superior ERA any how (and mind you…in a hitters park), Wilson will be Wilson: 15 to 17 wins; below 3 ERA; top 2 or 3 second or third starter in baseball. Lastly: Your judgments of Scoscia are skewed. Yes, the man didn’t give Napoli his due. But let me remind you that while Napoli played for the Angels he was best known for poor ethic, laziness, aloofness in the locker room and nagging make shift injuries. Scoscia is an old-fashioned ex-ball player who abhors those things. He rummaged 86-wins this year from a young team without any semblance of power in the middle of the order. He won with Izturis and Callaspo at 3rd base, both of which are the worst third baseman in baseball. Napoli WILL NOT do what he did this last year EVER AGAIN. He is the lesser version, less consistent catching Vernon Wells- whom I can’t stand, but (speaking of Wells) historically bounces back after the kind of year he had in 2011. With this type of middle of the order protection, Wells, comfortably will drive in runs with the monkey of his back. He was never intended to be a franchise guy, which unfortunately last year, were the expectations of him.
