The Cal State Fullerton baseball team really are Titans. With a rich history, multiple national titles, and a #4 national ranking this season, they are clearly the team to beat in the Big West.

On Friday night in front of 2,158 Baggett Stadium fans, senior Joey Wagman gave up just one run in seven innings and Reed Reilly allowed only one base runner in a two-inning save as the Mustangs prevailed 2-1 in the series opener.

This game was one for baseball purists. Teams combined for just 13 hits and just one error. Starters Wagman and Fullerton’s Thomas Eshelman were both on their game as the innings flew by.

With the victory, Cal Poly (26-9, 7-3) pulls to one game back of the Big West-leading Titans (32-6, 8-2). The two teams will square-off tonight at 6pm and tomorrow (Sunday) at 1pm. After a Friday night that saw Cal Poly host a rodeo, baseball, and softball game, there will be multiple events on-campus again this evening on the Saturday of Open House. Along with the 6pm baseball game, there will be a Spring soccer game at Spanos Stadium between the Cal Poly men’s team and Stanford. That game starts at 7pm. Gates for the soccer game open at 6pm.
