I’m still chuckling. Giggling. It’s been ten years and ESPN did a piece yesterday on Jim Mora’s “PLAYOFFS” meltdown.
One of the best thing about the above quote is that Mora was talking about a Peyton Manning-led team. Mora coached Manning for the first few years of his career, and they generally weren’t great ones for the Colts. People forget that. In Peyton’s first four seasons, the Colts were 32-32. In 2001, they were only 6-10.
Of course Manning went on to win a Super Bowl, but Mora deserves props for a top-notch soundbite that still resonates today. Chargers fans, for instance, might have similar reactions at this point.
“PLAYOFFS” wasn’t even my favorite Jim Mora quote of all-time though. For my money, this is the one that takes the cake.
It seems totally well thought-out and he makes his point. You feel bad for him and giggle really hard at the same time. I could watch this one over and over…
So happy anniversary, Jim Mora. You stand as a men among other men. A man who says things like diddley-poo. For that, we salute you.
