This time, the line was just as long — snaking around the block with some fans waiting up to two hours to get a chance to get their picture taken with the ultimate prize. […]

I don’t know why they’re bringing both of their two whole trophies they’ve won in San Francisco, but they are. And you can be there to get your picture taken with it or something. I’ll probably be there with my camera and some Dodgers gear on. […]

I’m glad he mentions SLO. The fansmanship here is more 50/50 than ever when it comes to Dodgers/Giants…

I wonder if him being a local is capturing some casual fans?

It’s a college town so your going to get both fans there. Here is my opinion of why there might be more Giants fans there now. I like to call them “fair weather fans” or “band wagoners.” SLO has always been Dodger country or at least dominated by Dodger fans. If it has changed I feel the newly acquired trophy by The Giants might have had something to do with it. What gets me is if you look at SLO on a map it’s still in the southern section of the state. I really feel that Cal Poly and the “band wagoners” have contributed most to the swing in opinion between LA vs. SF. That was not the case 10 years ago.

Poignant humor. Loved that. And I agree with Dave, that Giants fans are more “fair weather then any others. Well…being a true Angels fan, I have to say this new era Angel fan is annoying too.

Very few Giants fans back in those days, but they were solid and fanatical for the times. Dodger fans came and went. I remember falling asleep as a child listing to Vinny and Jerry tell me about Sandy Kolfax, Don Drysdale, Wally Moon, Duke Snyder and on and on.

I was a Dodger fan up until the late 70’s. I did not fully understand why they called them Bums until then. They could foul up most anything, and when something was important, they would ALWAYS screw it up. Remember Steve Sax? That boy would throw the ball all the way in the stands if the play might have ANY significant bearing on the outcome of the game. He was the essence of Dodger performance when the chips were down.

What’s remarkable to me is the “fair weather” Giant fans that have come out of the wood work now, acting like they have been Giant Fans for “years”. Can you say “Phony Baloney”?

Anyhow, the latest Dodger upheavals is just more proof of how screwed up the organization has actually been for a long time. Moving the franchise away from LA is their only hope. They will roll over, as always, before the end of the season. The Giants at least have a little class these days. They have either stunk or had a realiastic chance over the years, but at least you knew where you stood.

Dave Stevens.
