On Friday night, Mission Prep hosted Christian from El Cajon, a powerhouse in their division a year ago. Christian scored on their first offensive play from scrimmage and didn’t really look back, running to a 56-21 victory in downtown San Luis Obispo.

Down 21-7 in the first half, Mission got to within 21-14 in the second quarter. On the final play of the half, though, the Patriots scored a touchdown to push their lead 28-14 going into halftime. Despite Dyllan Smiley’s 106-yard rushing day, Mission was out-scored 35-7 to end the game.

The game was stalled for about 20 minutes in the middle of the third quarter when a power surge caused the stadium lights to go out. Fans, illuminated by their cell phones, used the time to pump themselves up with chants. The Mission student section broke into a hardy rendition of Silent Night.

Also notable was a second-half catch by Royals receiver, Matthew Bosshardt that was Lynn Swann-like.

Mission Prep (0-1) faces Rio Hondo Prep on the road next week.

Bill Halter to Host SLO County High School Football show on ESPN Radio? https://www.fansmanship.com/bill-halter-to-host-slo-county-high-school-football-show-on-espn-radio/ https://www.fansmanship.com/bill-halter-to-host-slo-county-high-school-football-show-on-espn-radio/#respond Fri, 07 Sep 2012 03:08:17 +0000 http://www.fansmanship.com/?p=6319 If you know me, you know I am a big fan of radio — especially sports radio. In college, I was an intern at XTRA Sports 690 in San Diego and I still really enjoy sports radio. If I’m on the road by myself, I’ll choose Jim Rome or the Loose Canons or Petros and Money over music most of the time.

Today, I heard an interesting commercial today on ESPN 1280. While their website has yet to confirm it, the commercial announced that KSBY Sports Anchor Bill Halter will be hosting a Thursday evening high school football show.

In high school, we would get to someone’s house quickly after the game to watch (and tape) the competing KEYT and KSBY high school scoreboard shows. It was the “thing to do.” While at XTRA in college, I had the opportunity to contribute to Coach John Kentera’s Friday night high school scoreboard show and I think that, especially for a community like ours, a local high school show is great.

I have been impressed by Bill Halter’s play-by-play during Cal Poly vs. UCSB basketball games. I think Halter on the radio will be a nice change of pace and I think the high school show is something I’ll listen to.
