Winners of 17 of their past 20 games, the San Luis Obispo Blues are playing well as they head into the stretch run of the California Collegiate League season. Manager Chal Fanning, who won his 400th game as the Blues manager this Summer, has a team with the third-best record in the CCL this year.
On Friday night, the Blues hosted their final Fireworks Night of the season, beating the Southern California Catch 6-2 to take the series 2-1.

School is out, hot days are starting to outnumber mild ones, and San Luis Obispo Blues baseball is in full-swing. After a torrid first week-plus of the summer, the Blues were 7-1 when talked with General Manger and part owner Adam Stowe. Stowe is a SLO-county native and spent time at Blues games long before becoming involved in ownership and day-to-day operations of the organization.
A perennial contender in the 8-team California Collegiate League, the Blues draw players from all over the nation to play baseball almost every day for the entire summer. Herding nearly 30 college students to San Luis Obispo is just part of the logistical puzzle Stowe and head coach Chal Fanning work to put together to make the operation work.
San Luis Obispo doesn’t have a minor league professional baseball team in town, but the Blues are basically the next best thing. The atmosphere at Sinsheimer sometimes mirrors that kind of fan and community engagement, as Stowe described.
